We are grateful to God and delighted to witness a successful completion of the academy’s first term 2013/2014 Academic Session. A lot has happened since our last edition of the newsletter, and we can only say that God’s grace has led us this far. Amongst these includes: the term’s academic programmes in the Pre school/Primary school, packaged in theory and practices. This has been assessed by parameters such as Quality Assurance Tests, Project (Home and School based) as well as the Term Evaluation. Meanwhile, the secondary department was assessed by two continuous Assessment Test, Project (School and Home based), Term Evaluation, Class Exercises and assignments. It was an accomplished term though with mixed feelings with the bowing out of office of the LWA Primary Head Boy; Sultan Mohammed, his siblings (Memunat and Abdulsamed) and their mother, our ever vibrant, elegant and supportive Immediate Past PTA Chairperson – Mrs. Atinuke Mohammed. Thank God, it is for good. They are on a foreign posting and service to our father land and have promised to be re-united with the Lordswill Academy family on their return to Nigeria in a few years time.

Mrs. Atinuke Mohammed took a bow for good, handed over PTA mantle of leadership to Mr. Edward Okeke (Immediate Past Vice Chairman) during the last P.T.A meeting. She was presented with LWA Outstanding Parent Partnership Award by the Executive Director. In addition, we use this medium to thank in a very special way, Sultan our Head Boy for the magnanimity displayed in donating two HP Desktop computers and a digital multipurpose printer to the Executive Director’s Office and the ICT laboratory. The presentations were made during a colourful but short ceremony at a morning assembly where he made his valedictory statement.

The gesture was reciprocated when he received a certificate and a token parting gift from the school. We wish Sultan, his siblings (Memunat and Abdulsamed) and their parents a safe journey, God’s protection and blessings.

Finally, we congratulate and warmly welcome on board our new PTA Chairman - Mr. Edward Okeke, a man whose leg fits, without flatter, Mrs. A. Mohammed’s shoes. We pray for a successful tenure.

Thank God! Christmas is here again

For us in LWA, the Christmas bells started ringing the moment we completed the term’s examinations. However, the Christmas and End of Year (2013) was formally ushered in on Thursday, 5th December, 2013 with our very colourful and fun – filled Christmas Carol and Concert. Wow! It was amazing and superb!

We thank all our Parents for making it happen. It is our prayer that God will continue to endow our parents financially to meet up with all their obligations promptly. Thank you for partnering with LWA.

For the LWA teaching and non-teaching personnel that have been committed and dedicated to our course, Abraham’s blessing will be yours all the days of your lives. Come 13th January, 2014, we look forward to welcoming back all our Excellent Scholars to the Second Term 2013/2014 Academic Session. Come prepared to excel in all aspects of our curricular and extracurricular Programs.

The students visited the national stadium complex, Abuja for their term's excursion.

During the period under review, the term has recorded a remarkable progress in every scholar as validated by the various assessments undertaken. The LWA 70% benchmark has been attained by more than 80% of the scholars. This, no doubt, is attributable to the laudable landmark strategies employed by the school.

During the period under review, we vigorously pursued the exposure of scholars to global phenomena via the weekly Friday themes geared towards making them fit to compete globally.

We continue to appeal to our highly esteemed Parents to partner with the school positively in ensuring that the school’s vision of developing the holistic child and also positioning them as ‘Beacons of Excellence’ is achieved. LWA is indeed a fort for robust capacity building and character development. Join the riding train now!

The level of discipline among scholars has really improved owing to the support of our Parents who partner with the school to instill sound morals. We wish to encourage our esteemed parents to continue this practice at home as we promise to counsel and correct the children at every point whenever we notice any unusual and unacceptable behaviour.

We observed a slight improvement in punctuality of scholars to school in the just concluded term. Our expectation is high as there is a lot of room for improvement since this forms part of our character development training for LWA scholars. On the challenge of late school bus pickup and drop off, the PTA has graciously set up an action committee to find a lasting solution. We thank you PTA for the steps so far, while we continue to appeal to parents to prepare their children early for pick up.

From next term, parents of scholars who come to school after 8:00am would be requested to sign the register at the gate on such days before the children will be allowed entry.

We thank all the parents who kept faith with our communication book by reading and responding to the issues raised. We use this medium to appeal to others to key into this opportunity and monitor their child(ren)/wards’ daily progress.

In line with our staff development scheme, LWA recently sponsored a management staff to the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) conference in Lagos, and another is currently undergoing a diploma course in Montessori. This conference afforded us an international platform to brainstorm, collaborate and acquire new knowledge on the early childhood, Primary and Secondary education.

VOLUNTEER WEEK (25th – 29th NOVEMBER 2013)

Once again, great volunteers emerged and we hail them for helping out during our morning assembly, class supervision/invigilation, marking of objective questions with approved marking scheme, donations of various items, teaching/learning resources, books, free medical support services scheduled for the upcoming career week (2nd term (2013/2014), craft/handiwork tutorials. We say a big thank you to you all, and God bless. We look forward to a continuous partnership with LWA parents. Well done for choosing us!

May the good Lord bless and reward you all abundantly.

In keeping with our LWA motto “Perfect Link to Excellence”, we appeal to our esteemed Parents whose children have faded, torn or tattered uniforms to replace them with new ones (at least two pairs) before resumption. Many scholars have also been identified with incomplete dressing (no tie) during the just ended term. LWA uniform is her identity! As part of the standard and quality assurance of the school, scholars are expected to turn out well dressed and groomed at all times.

Be reminded that our school shoes are strapped covered black shoes with no heels. White approved socks are on sale in the school at an affordable rate of ₦1,200 only (five complete pairs). The same quantity is also issued out free, upon purchase of the complete set of school uniform. We now have in stock, high quality uniforms.

Our parents have won it!

We love our scholars and we encourage our parents to buy our meals. So, it was easy for us to give in to the popular demand for price reduction. Wow! It’s a 10% reduction. Rush now to buy our meal tickets for your children and let them enjoy the hot cuisine from LWA kitchen. Your children must not miss out!

LWA meals, always delicious!!

In line with the CBN regulations on cashless financial transactions, with effect from the 2nd term 2013/2014 Academic Session, we will only accept payment of fees through any of the following:

-       At the school via POS

-      On Line Payment via the school portal

-       Manager’s cheque

As the case maybe, parents should ensure that the names of their children with their respective classes are clearly written for ease of identification. We enjoin parents who are yet to settle bills for the new academic session to kindly do so as to enable us serve you better. We trust God to always meet your needs.

We wish to remind our esteemed Parents to key into the newly introduced complaint/feedback forms, and always lodge their complains when the issues raised are not satisfactorily addressed by the respective staff of the school. The idea of the introduction of the complaint form is to help the Executive Director and the management team identify problems unsolved, solve them and serve you better.

To God be the Glory! We recorded 100% pass in the last exams. LWA will be presenting her third batch of students for the Basic School Certificate Examination (BSCE) in May, 2014. As usual, our students will be taking both National Examination Council (NECO) and Education Resource Council (ERC). The cost implication of these examinations has been included in the 2nd term fee bill of the affected parents. We appeal to our Esteemed parents of the TCE 3 graduating class to complete all payment of their children’s fees not later than April, 2014.

In our continued effort to give our children qualitative education geared towards academic excellence, during the PTA meeting held on Saturday 16th November 2013, the following decisions were taken:

-         Academic Detention of Students:

Students who are found wanting in note taking, submission of projects; assignments should be held back in school to complete such tasks, subject to the prior notification of parents to pick up their child(ren) on such days.

-         Extension Classes:

With effect from Second Term 2013/2014 Academic Session, extension classes would be held for TCE 3 and BCE 2 classes running through Mondays to Thursdays (5pm) and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12 noon. This will accord the school ample time to prepare the students for external examinations.

We wish to remind our esteemed Parents that the job of raising a child is a joint responsibility of the Parents and the school. To enable us serve you better, parents should always take conferencing as a way of dialoguing /partnering with the school to bring out the best in the children.

On this note, we appeal to our esteemed Parents to always make out time to respond to Conference calls concerning our children. We will not relent in our efforts to bring up a breed of well-disciplined and academically sound future leaders.

In order to save cost, the school will no longer distribute hard copies of newsletter, but appeal to parents to access newsletters through their mail addresses or through the Parent’s portal of our website.
